In 1892 Kent became the first village with a population under 5,000 to use a State Law which allowed municipalities; It is the largest city in Portage County, located approximately 10 miles from Akron and 30 Miles from Cleveland.

Kent State, located in the Southeastern part of the city, is one of the largest Universities in Ohio which is ranked as one of the 77 public research universities and one of the top 76 in community engagement.
